Outside Lands, Day 1

A few months ago, I signed up to photograph Outside Lands, the biggest music festival in the Bay Area that looks to challenge Coachella and Bonnaroo. Since I've never shot anything this big before, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. Basically, what it comes down to is this: the bigger the event, the less control and access. Although it's really exciting to hear and see some of my all-time favorite bands, it's also rather disappointing to feel like a pack-mule and one in a herd of sheep.

Now that Day 1 is through (and with that the pain of figuring out logistics), I plan to challenge myself to find more creative and artistic photos. Photos by Alison Yin

The Cold War Kids:

Manu Chao was my favorite performance of the day:

Radiohead was definitely the headliner tonight if not for the whole weekend, and they were so inspiring they turned everyone red.

Recent Shots for the Modesto Bee

Here are a couple of recent photos I shot for the Modesto Bee because I broke Marty Bicek's ankle, and he couldn't work. That was just a joke. I would never do anything that sinister.

Cherry tomatoes were among the many types of organic tomatoes at Tysons Farms in Waterford, Calif., Sunday, August 17, 2008.

Former Sierra High, Modesto Junior College and University of the Pacific baseball standout Matt Berezay, 11, comes to town with the Inland Empire 66ers to play against the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field in Modesto, Calif. on Monday, August 18, 2008.

In Search of my Namesake

My middle name "Rush" comes from my great-grandfather on my biological mother's side. He died when his son, my grandfather was only two years old. Rush Liel Brunner died at the age of 35 in San Leandro where he lived in 1926, so we went looking through the graveyard and mausoleum in Oakland where Alison and I live today in search of his ashes.
